Home study: Students are required to view the PADI Open Water DVD, read the corresponding modules in the PADI Open Water Diver Manual, and answer the knowledge review questions at the end of the module before each class session. Student Kits: Each student must purchase his or her own student training kit which includes the PADI Open Water Diver Manual, student record folder, recreational dive planner, and startup log book inserts. The DVDs can be shared. Academics and Pool skill development: Classroom sessions consist of reviewing the course material and completing knowledge reviews, four quizzes, and a final exam. All quizzes and exams are multiple choice. Students are required to turn in their completed knowledge reviews found at the end of each chapter by the end of the last session. During pool sessions, the instructor will brief the students on diving skills, demonstrate the skills underwater, and evaluate students as they perform each skill. Students will have ample time for skill development. Pool Equipment: The class and pool fees include use of all scuba equipment except for mask, snorkel, fins, boots, and gloves. MASS Diving will provide tanks, regulators, buoyancy compensators, weight belts, and exposure suits. If students already own their equipment, we encourage them to use their own equipment. Four open water training evaluation dives: Four ocean dives are required for a PADI certification. Our program consists of two shore dives on Saturday and and two shore dives on Sunday in the Gloucester and Rockport area. These dives are conducted over a two-day period during a weekend, along with an orientation on a prior Sunday if applicable. On each dive the students will demonstrate the skills learned in the confined open water sessions followed by an exciting tour. Two dives will be conducted per day at a minimum depth of 20 feet for a minimum time of 20 minutes per dive. Maximum depth will not exceed 40 feet and bottom time will depend on the student’s air consumption. Please visit our website for open water weekend dates and information.
